Welcome to Walton Jr. Wrestling! Walton Jr. Wrestling is a USA Wrestling chartered club and feeder club for Walton High School Wrestling. Our goal is to introduce the sport of wrestling to kids ages 5-14, and to provide them an opportunity to learn the sport from experienced coaches, gain valuable skills, and participate at the highest levels of competition offered in youth wrestling should they so desire. The youth "Folkstyle" wrestling season starts in late October and runs through mid March. Depending on age, the kids practice 2-3 times per week. Competitions are generally held on the weekends, and consist of dual meets and individual tournaments. Each wrestler is encouraged to attend competitions consistent with their interest, schedule, and level of experience. Beginner tournaments are available for first or second year wrestlers who have not previously placed at the state level. Wrestlers are organized into age groups – 6 & Under (6U), 8 & Under (8U), 10 & Under (10U), 12 & Under (12U), and 14 & Under (14U) – and weight classes. The weight classes are broken into 3-5 pound increments – 75, 80, 85, 90, etc. – depending on age group. 6U/8U/10U age groups are classified as Little Kids (birth years 2000 or later for the 2010-2011 season), and 12U/14U age groups are classified as Big Kids (birth years 1996-1999 for the 2010-2011 season). Registration Registration for the 2010-2011 “Folkstyle” season will be held on Sunday, September 26th from 12-2pm, and on Sunday, October 10th from 12-2pm, in the Walton High School Wrestling Room (behind the Gymnasium next to the Football Stadium). The registration fee is $150 and includes a practice t-shirt and shorts, a Walton Wrestling car magnet, and registration for the Walton Raider Classic. Registration forms are available at the registration sessions, or you can download the forms here (Coming Soon). The registration forms also include a number of team spirit wear items, and samples of these will be available at the registration sessions. All wrestlers are also required to obtain a USA Wrestling card. The cost for the card is $35. As background, USA Wrestling is the organizing body for amateur wrestling in the United States, and Team Georgia Wrestling is the USA Wrestling organizing body for amateur wrestling in Georgia. Visit www.teamgeorgiawrestling.com/memberships and click "USA Membership Cards" to purchase or renew your USA Wrestling Card. Select "Walton Takedown Club" in the Club field. Print two copies of your USA Wrestling Card – one for you and one for the team – and bring the team's copy to your first practice. Wrestlers will also need to purchase a uniform, which basically consists of 3 items: a singlet, headgear and shoes. You may purchase a Walton Team Singlet directly from the team at (or after) registration. All other items must be purchased individually by each wrestler.
